Slyve Studio Beta

Install Slyve Studio and get set up

Download the app, sign in with a code, and let the first run get your Mac ready.

What you need

  • A Mac with Apple silicon.
  • macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
  • An e-mail address for your account.

Install

  1. Download Slyve Studio from slyve.studio/download.
  2. Open the disk image and drag Slyve Studio to Applications.
  3. Open Slyve Studio from Applications.

Always open it from Finder, Launchpad or the Dock. If a terminal or a script starts it, macOS applies that program’s permissions instead, and the switches in System Settings do nothing for Slyve.

Sign in and start your trial

Slyve asks for your e-mail address and sends you a sign-in code. There is no password to remember.

Your 14-day free trial starts when you first sign in. It has every feature. Exports made during the trial carry a small “Made with Slyve Studio” mark. A licence removes it.

The first run

A few short pages walk you through set-up:

  • What Slyve does. A short tour of the features.
  • Permissions. Screen Recording, Accessibility, Microphone and Camera. Each explains what it is for. Microphone records your voice; Camera shows you alongside your screen. They are optional: choose Continue to skip them. See Permissions Slyve needs.
  • Add-ons. The parts every Mac needs download in the background while you carry on. Skip for now goes on without the optional ones; you can get them later in Settings › Add-ons. See Add-ons.
  • Shortcuts. Make Slyve your screenshot and recording tool. It waits in the menu bar from the moment you log in, so the keys always work. If another app already uses ⌥⇧R, the page offers ⌃⌥⇧R instead, and the rest of the set-up shows the keys that work.

The last page has one button, Start recording. Beside it you can take your first screenshot, choose how Slyve looks, or open the small Lumen sample project. Each time you open it, a copy opens in your Library. The original stays as it is.

Camera and microphone start on for new recordings. Before Start, the camera preview lets you check your framing. Use the on/off toggles in the capture bar to change either independently; Slyve remembers each choice. You can also change these defaults in Settings › Recording. Taking a screenshot never starts either device.

Where recordings are kept

Settings › General › Storage shows the folder your recordings are in (~/Movies/Slyve unless you chose another). Show in Finder opens it. Restore defaults… puts every setting back as it was; your recordings and their folder stay as they are.
