Edit by transcript
Delete words in the transcript to cut the video, and clear out filler words and long pauses.
Once a take has a transcript, you can edit the video like a document. See Captions to make one.
Cut words
- Open the transcript in the Captions tab.
- Select the words you do not want. The arrow keys move through the words, and ⇧ with an arrow extends the selection.
- Press Delete.
The matching video and sound are cut in one undo step.
Bring a word back
A cut word stays in the transcript, struck through. Click it and choose Undo trim to put it back. ⌘Z works too.
Filler words
Above the transcript, a chip counts the filler words, like “um” and “uh”:
- Remove N · Apply all cuts them all at once.
- One by one lets you review each.
Long pauses
A second chip counts pauses over 0.8 seconds. Shorten all trims each one down, so the talk keeps a natural rhythm. The removed time shows beside it.
Tidy up
Tidy up, in the Captions tab, finds silences and filler words in a review list. Apply the ones you want together, with one undo. It works for takes without a transcript too.
Every cut, from Tidy up or from deleting words, fades the sound for 12 ms on each side of the join, on every audio track, so a cut never clicks. In Silence options, Keep laughs and ‘mhmm’ (on by default) leaves out a pause that has a laugh or a sigh in it and a listener’s “mhmm”, so they are not cut.
