Record an iPhone or iPad
Record a phone or tablet on a cable, or an iPhone through iPhone Mirroring with your clicks kept for zooms.
Choose Device in the capture bar, then open the Device menu. There are two ways to record a phone.
On a cable
- Connect the iPhone or iPad with a cable, unlock it, and tap Trust if it asks.
- Choose it in the Device menu. The card shows its screen live.
- Click Start. Keep the device unlocked while you record. Turning off Auto-Lock (Settings › Display & Brightness) stops it locking mid-take.
The device’s own sound is recorded with the take. To silence it in the video, open the editor’s Audio tab and turn on Mute device audio. The sound is still kept in the project, and ⌘Z or the same switch brings it back.
Slyve needs Camera access to see a cabled device. The take opens in a device frame, the phone on your background. You tap on the phone itself, so there are no clicks to zoom on. Add zooms in the editor.
Slyve works out the model from the size of its screen and picks a frame to match: a Dynamic Island or a notch, the right corner shape, and the iPad’s even bezel. Phones that share a screen size, such as iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro, get the newest of them. In Background › Frame, Colour lists that model’s colours. Generic switches back to the plain Black, Silver or Match frame.
With iPhone Mirroring
iPhone Mirroring shows your iPhone in a window on your Mac, and you control it with your Mac’s pointer and keyboard. It needs macOS 15 or later, an iPhone with iOS 18 or later, and the same Apple Account on both.
- In the Device menu, choose Open iPhone Mirroring. Or open it from Spotlight.
- Lock your iPhone. Mirroring connects only while the phone is locked and near your Mac. If the window says iPhone in Use, lock the phone.
- Choose iPhone (Mirroring) in the Device menu, then click Start.
- Use the iPhone in its Mirroring window.
Slyve records the Mirroring window and opens the take in a device frame. Your clicks and keys are recorded as well, so automatic zooms, click effects and keys on video work as they do for a window take. This needs Screen Recording access. The sound your iPhone plays comes through your Mac, so turn on System audio to record it.
If you close the Mirroring window, the Device menu shows Open iPhone Mirroring again.
